Two teens to be tried as adults in San Diego sex attacks
Two 16-year-old boys arrested on suspicion of sexually attacking two girls in a park in Rancho Penasquitos will be tried as adults, the San Diego County district attorney's office announced Monday.
The defendants, whose names were not released, are set to be arraigned Monday in San Diego County Superior Court.
Their names and the specific charges against them will be revealed during the arraignment, officials said.
The girls, ages 15 and 16, were sitting in the park about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 13 when they were approached by the suspects, forced into a secluded area and sexually assaulted, police said.
One of the attackers had a knife, police said. The attackers allegedly fled on a bicycle.
Police held a community meeting in Rancho Penasquitos for nervous homeowners in the upscale community after the attack to pledge a vigorous investigation. The suspects were arrested two days later.
