"California Design, 1930-1965: 'Living in a Modern Way,' " now on view at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art through March 25, 2012 in conjunction with the Pacific Standard Time art initiative is the first major study of the modern design boom that shaped the country's mid-century material culture. It's organized by the themes of Shaping, Making, Living and Selling and features more than 350 objects in a wide range of media, as well as period re-creations -- most notably the living room of furniture designers Charles and Ray Eames, whose Case Study House No. 8 was a project for Arts and Architecture magazine.
